ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
GEORGE LAZENBY
After Sir Sean Connery's temporary departure after You only live twice in 1967, George Lazenby took to the formidable task of succeeding Sean Connery as James Bond 007 with characteristic charm and confidence. George Lazenby was born in Goulbourn, New South Wales, Australia on September 5, 1939 and was one of the highest-paid models working in Europe before he was spotted by producer Albert Broccoli in the barbers at the Dorchester Hotel. His physical exuberance and energy secured Lazenby the role of James Bond, however a long term commitment to the role never materialized. During the production of On her majesty's secret service, George's manager advised him against accepting a multi-movie contract, believing that the Bond movies would lose their popularity over time. On her majesty's secret service was George Lazenby's first and last appearance in the Bond series. He departed the series after just one memorable performance. In later years, he played Bond-like characters in several TV spoofs.
