M's Mission Assignments to 007
The character of M is the head of Secret Intelligence Service (also known as MI 6). The role of M is to assign James Bond 007 or other secret agents in MI 6 on their respective missions. In a literal sense, M is directly 007's immediate boss. In the EON film series, the character of M was portrayed by Bernard Lee (1962-1979), Robert Brown (1983-1989), Dame Judy Drench (1995-2012), and Ralf Fiennes (2012-current).
