SiR Roger MOORE
After Sir Sean Connery's departure after Diamonds are forever, the hunt for new James Bond was on. Sir Roger Moore was top on the list of candidates for the role of the famous secret agent. Sir Roger brought a wit and sense of humour to the role of James Bond 007 that was distinctly his own. He was born in London on October 14, 1927. After school, he worked in an animation studio working on War Office short films. His artistic ability did not stop there and he went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts before being called up for the military service in 1945.
He subsequently acted in numerous television and stage roles and soon landed a starring role as the famous 'Simon Templar' in the TV series The Saint which ran from 1962 to 1969 and rapidly became a household name. In 1964, he starred as James Bond (for 7 minutes) in an episode of the comedy sketch show Mainly Millicent. He was considered for the role of James Bond 007 movie series in 1968 before he finally accepted the part in 1972 for the movie Live and let Die. Sir Roger went on to play the role of the famous secret agent in subsequent movies, The Man with a golden gun, The spy who loved me, Moonraker, For your eyes only, Octopussy and A view to a kill. He departed the series after A view to a kill in 1985. With these 7 movies, Sir Roger holds the record for portraying James Bond the most times in the official EON series. He was subsequently replaced by Timothy Dalton.
Sir Roger Moore was knighted in 2003 for his work for children’s charity UNICEF.
