SiR SEAN Connery
Sir Sean Connery was the first actor to portray Ian Fleming's James Bond on the movie screens. He was born on August 25, 1930 in a working-class neighbourhood in Edinburgh, Scotland. Connery Joined the navy at an early age and afterwards worked as a bricklayer, lifeguard and French polisher. He enjoyed bodybuilding of bodybuilding during his spare time which led him to small theatrical parts that included training with Swedish dancer Yat Malmgren. These experiences instilled in him the masculine grace and air of confidence that producers Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli and Harry Saltzman were looking for in the role of James Bond 007.
In 1962, Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman brought James Bond to the silver screen in Dr. No, based on Ian Fleming's 1958 novel. Dr. No became an instant success with Sean Connery's unique style, exotic locations and the spectacular supporting cast. Following Dr. No, Sean Connery went on to play James Bond four more times in From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thuderball, and You only live twice, before temporarily retiring from the role.
After George Lazenby's retirement after the 007 movie On her majesty's Secret Service, the producers became desperate to find a new James Bond, as they had sold part of the new film's proceeds to investors. The head of United Artists told them to bring back Sean Connery at any cost. Sean Connery eventually returned back for one last outing (for EON Productions) as the famous secret agent in Diamonds are forever for a base salary of $1.25 million plus approximately 13% of profits. Diamonds are forever was an enjoyable success. He chose to donate his entire base salary to a Scottish education charity.
Sean Connery received a lifetime achievement award at the 1996 Golden Globes and a knighthood in 2000.
